Maribeth Bersani has been active in the field of aging for over 40 years. Her early career includes 20 years with the New York State Government, including Executive Deputy Director for the New York State Office for Aging. She chaired the 1995 Governor’s Conference on Aging and led the New York State Delegation to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging. Moving to Virginia in 1997 began a 10-year career with Sunrise Senior Living. As an advocate for senior living policy, responsibilities included advocacy efforts with Congress, policy makers and national associations in the promotion of consumer driven long term care policies. Most recently Maribeth was COO of Argentum, the trade association representing senior living providers. Key accomplishments included implementing initiatives on behalf of senior living operators, industry partners and residents. Currently she is a consultant offering expertise in aging and senior living. She is the former Board Chair of Senior Services of Alexandria, Board member of Mount Vernon at Home, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Carpenter’s Shelter volunteer and Alexandria Rotarian. Maribeth received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Alfred University in 1976 and a master’s degree in Gerontology from USC.
Enid Borden is the President and CEO of the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. Recognized in the book “Everyday Heroes: 50 Americans Changing the World One Nonprofit at a Time,” and recently honored by Advancing States with the 2019 Arthur Fleming Award, Enid Borden is an astonishing woman, an inspiring leader, and the preeminent authority on senior hunger in America. For over three decades, Borden has relentlessly led the effort to raise public awareness about and then find solutions to the growing problem of senior hunger in America and abroad. She coined the term the “hidden hungry,” bringing the issue of senior hunger into the national dialogue. Under Borden’s leadership, NFESH commissioned the first comprehensive, national study on food insecurity among seniors and continues to release groundbreaking research on the causes, consequences and future of senior hunger in America. Highlighting the problem of senior hunger has set the stage for Borden to achieve her life’s mission – formulating creative and innovative solutions and then forging partnerships to ensure those solutions become reality. Borden has been invited to give lectures and consult in both Canada and Europe on the issue and solutions to ending senior hunger. Borden earned her bachelor’s degree from Alfred University in Upstate New York, her master’s degree from Adelphi University in New York City and pursued graduate study through the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
Anastasia (Mulan) Campbell is the Program Director for the Rochester Children’s Scholarship Fund (RCSF), where she leads strategic programming, student support services, and community engagement initiatives to expand educational access for underserved youth in the Rochester City School District. In this role, she oversees scholarship distribution, cultivates partnerships with schools and local organizations, and provides students with the academic, personal, and financial resources needed to succeed through high school and beyond. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in Executive Leadership, further deepening her commitment to equity, advocacy, and systemic change through education. Anastasia earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Studies in 2020 and her MBA in 2022, both from Alfred University.
Joanna (Jo) Carroll is an entrepreneur and community builder in Rochester, New York. Jo founded The Op Shop, a brick-and-mortar vintage and handmade clothing collective, in 2017 at the age of 25. Their accolades include receiving their undergraduate degree from Alfred University's School of Art & Design in 2015, a SUNY Chancellor Award for Student Excellence in 2015, and most recently, Alfred University's Abigail Allen Service to Women Alumni award this past June. Over the past seven years, Jo has been building their small business, but most notably a rewarding career and community of creatives. Described as a vintage clothing emporium and business incubator, The Op Shop supports majority young, women and queer creatives, fostering the ethos behind the name "Op" as an opportunity-for-all shop. Also named after Alfred University's community thrift store, Jo has the unique ability to unify the past with the present and envision a hopeful future, built on collaboration and community that spans generationally.
Grace Evans (she/they, ella/elle) is an artist and educator from Pittsburgh who is passionate about learning. She earned her degree in Art & Design from Alfred University with minors in Art History and Spanish. For the past several years, Grace has been working to build community through arts-based programming in both English and Spanish. Grace works as a SOY Pittsburgh Coordinator at the Latino Community Center, a nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh, PA whose mission is to empower, advocate with, and celebrate the Latinx community in Allegheny County. Grace coordinates SOY (Supporting Our Youth), a bilingual afterschool program and is proud to have a meaningful impact in her community, helping local students to express themselves and be proud of who they are. Grace is especially dedicated to JEDAI work and creating opportunities for LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Corey Fecteau (she or they) is a visual artist and proud three-time Alfred University alum. In Corey’s two-decade career at AU, she has held a variety of mentoring, advising, and teaching roles in the admissions, career development, service learning, and academic affairs departments. Currently, Corey is honored to serve as Assistant Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In addition to her work at Alfred University, Corey has volunteered in a leadership capacity for several non-profit community organizations. She co-created a portfolio review program and reviewed grant proposals at the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, volunteered as a primary and general Election Inspector for the Allegany County Board of Elections, consulted on social media strategy and internship development for A21CG (Alfred 21st Century Group), was a founding board member for IMPACT Friends Group (Improving Allegany County Trails), and held two leadership positions on the board of the Tri-County Arts Council. After joining the Tri-County Arts Council board in 2018, Corey served as vice president from 2019-2020 and then became the first female president of the TCAC board in 2020. Corey led the Tri-County Arts Council board through two executive director searches, a relocation, COVID-19 pandemic operations, and two facilities expansions before stepping down in 2024 to focus on her art practice.
Olivia Gilbert received her bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering from Alfred University in 2024. She was a 4-year member of the Women's soccer and track and field teams, where she served as captain on both. After the completion of her senior seasons, she was awarded the Empire 8 Senior Scholar Athlete Award and the Empire 8 Woman of the Year Award for excelling on and off the field/track. In addition to sports, she served as the president of Alfred University's Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honors Society) Chapter, was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa leadership society, and Phi Beta Kappa honors society. Currently, Olivia is a Process Engineer in the Laser Grade Optics division at Optimax Systems Inc. located in Ontario, NY. Optimax is the largest precision optics manufacturing facility in the United States providing optical solutions for Aerospace, Semiconductor, Medical, and Military applications. She first started at Optimax as an intern in the coating department during the summer of 2023. Her love for manufacturing and the culture at Optimax grew. Eventually, she was offered a full-time position on the manufacturing floor after graduation. Every day Olivia interfaces with technicians, group leaders, metrology teams, and other engineers to solve problems. As a process engineer, she is focused on providing her team with the necessary tools to perform the tasks at hand and ensure they are set up for success along the way. Throughout the past year in her position, she has been focused on documenting robust processes and fixing problems with root cause analysis approach.
Megan Hubbard received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Alfred University in 2008. Upon receiving her degree, she joined the regional public accounting firm Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co. LLP (MMB+Co), where she currently serves as a CPA and Partner within the firm’s tax department. Servicing clients throughout the Southern Tier and Northern Pennsylvania, Megan specializes in corporate and partnership tax for closely held businesses across various industries, including agribusiness, manufacturing, and rental real estate. As a member of the firm’s leadership team, she serves on several firm committees, including Tax Quality Control, Tax Administration, and Recruiting. Megan resides in Avoca, NY with her husband Andy and their three children, Hayden, Maggie and Owen. In addition to enjoying time with her family, she is an active volunteer within her community. She currently serves as the President of the Board of Education for the Avoca Central School District, as well as the Commissioner of Youth Baseball for the Village of Avoca and Assistant Treasurer for the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church. Megan also serves on the Career Development Center Employer Advisory Board.
Nurila Kambar is originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan. She earned her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Physics from Alfred University, where she was part of the Women’s Tennis Team, worked as a Resident Assistant for three years, led the International Students Club, and joined the Women’s Leadership Academy. Nurila also helped with international student recruitment and orientation, served on the Peer Review Board, and spent two summers doing research with Prof. Tim Keenan. She was honored to graduate as a Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior. After Alfred, Nurila completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she worked in Prof. Cecilia Leal’s group researching the biophysics of cell membranes. This past July, Dr. Kambar joined PPG as a Senior Analytical Chemist, where she focuses on microscopy.
Graduating from Alfred University with dual degrees gave Natalie the flexibility to carve out roles in both corporate and nonprofit, spanning marketing, sales, advancement, administration and more. As an Alpha Kappa Omicron sister, Natalie had the opportunity to work collaboratively in groups, influence from within and see the impact of micro-volunteering. Today, Natalie is the Executive Director, AIChE Foundation, a global foundation affiliated with AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) whose mission is to advance the chemical engineering profession and do a world of good. She is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) responsible for increasing individual philanthropy through management of the annual, major and named endowment fund campaigns. Natalie is President of the New Jersey Chapter of the Association for Fundraising Professionals, one of only five AFP Master Trainers in New York, and former President of Greater New York Mensa. She received a Bachelor of Science, Marketing and Bachelor of Arts, Performing Arts from Alfred University. She is enrolled in a Master of Science, Nonprofit Leadership & Management program at Northeastern University. Natalie earned bachelor’s degrees in business administration and theater from Alfred University in 1998. Natalie and her husband, Stan, are proud members of the Saxon Circle. They and her two daughters, Madelyn and Erin, with their cat Snowball, currently live in East Windsor, NJ.
Jamall Lewis Jr. is a 24-year-old originally from Buffalo, NY. His journey has taken him through Alabama and Arizona, experiences that have given him a unique perspective. He is a proud graduate of AU, where he earned a B.A. in Communication Studies in 2023. During his time at AU, he had the chance to play a semester of football and write for the Fiat Lux Newspaper. A week before graduation in 2023 Jamall was hired as the Assistant Director of Major Gifts at AU, a role he has held for two years. In his free time, he works as a freelance journalist, which allows him to combine his passions for storytelling and photography by conducting interviews and producing short-form content. When he is not working, you can find him watching sports or spending time with his twin sisters.
Terel Marshburn is the Economic Development Director at Otsego Now in Oneonta, New York. Previously, he served as the Chemung County Program Manager for IncubatorWorks in Elmira, where he supported small, local businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them learn how to thrive in the business and entrepreneurship world. In that role, Terel also managed the Elmira Makerspace and taught the business plan class, a part of their two Co. Starters courses offered. He has been actively involved with Collegiate Pitch Competitions such as AHA! and 607 Soaring. Before joining IncubatorWorks, he was the Director of Downtown Operations and Placemaking at the Downtown Ithaca Alliance. During his time at Alfred University, he was a Track and Field athlete and Athletic department, facilities, and events extraordinaire. Outside of work he enjoys youth mentorship (middle school to college students), sports and DIY projects. Terel is an avid gamer and is the proud dad of his 9-year-old son. Terel earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training in 2015 and an MBA in 2018, both from Alfred University.
Hannah (Ulmen) Miles is a two-time Alfred University graduate with a BFA concentrated on graphic design (’22) and an MBA focused on business sustainability (’23). She currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Career Development Center, where she helps students and alumni feel more prepared to navigate their career paths while preparing them to be confident about their next move. Before stepping into higher education, Hannah worked as a Senior Product Specialist, managing international vendor relationships and designing seasonal product lines with collaborative teams to bring creative concepts to life. The role combined creativity, business strategy, and communication skills that she now brings into her work supporting students. At Alfred University, Hannah meets 1:1 with students to provide support with everything from resumes and interviews to big-picture plans. She manages active resources and multiple processes including the internship-for-credit program and the APEX experiential learning grant, both of which help students gain valuable real-world experience. In addition, Hannah works with faculty to integrate career preparation visits into the classroom, ensuring that students engage with professional development early and often. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys painting, snowboarding, fishing, and traveling.
Reg Miller has been the career law clerk to a federal trial court judge since 2016. Before that, he spent three years on the judge’s staff as a term law clerk. He received his J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 2013, where he served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. Reg earned bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and political science from Alfred University in 2009.
Susan Rozak received her BS and MS in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University. During her time at AU she was a member of many clubs and organizations as well as president of Theta Chi Sorority. After graduating with her MS, Susan joined a start-up company in Boston MA working in R&D for 1 year. She was recruited by several AU friends to join Norton Company in Worcester MA where she has remained for over 30 years. Norton Company was acquired by Saint-Gobain in 1990. At Saint-Gobain Susan has worked in Applications, Marketing, Product Management, and Manufacturing Engineering. She was able to negotiate 10 years of part time work while she raised her 3 sons in Massachusetts and return to a full-time job in 2012. Susan has been active in her community as a youth soccer coach, a United Way Committee Member, the American Ceramic Society – New England Division, and as secretary of the Medway Parent Teachers Organization. She currently volunteers as a Mountain Ambassador at Killington Resort in Vermont. As an Alfred University volunteer, Susan has been a member and past- president of the Alumni Council, helped with new student recruitment, is a founding member of the Judson Leadership Center, and served as an alumni elected Board of Trustees member. She currently resides in Medway, Massachusetts with her husband Jeff.
Michael (Josh) Snyder graduated from Alfred University with his Bachelor of Science in Glass Science Engineering in 2005 and his Master of Science in Glass Science in 2006. He spent several months doing research on Hollow Glass Microspheres at the Technical University Dortmund (2006) in Dortmund, Germany. Josh started working at Corning Incorporated in 2006, as a glass melting/forming engineer, followed by roles in technical project management and functional management. Currently he is the Senior Manager of the Thermal Engineering group in the Manufacturing Technology and Engineering (MT&E) Division.
Christie Swarts received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Alfred University in 1996. She was heavily involved in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers student chapter, competed in the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Challenge and was a sister of the Alpha Kappa Omicron sorority. After graduation, Christie joined Dresser-Rand in Olean, New York, as an Aerodynamics and Performance Engineer and later became a Project Engineer in their Chesapeake, Virginia location. There she managed new equipment projects for both commercial and U.S. Department of Defense customers. In 2004, she joined Jacobs Technology as a Project Manager on their contract at NASA Langley Research Center, focused on the overhaul of the compressor systems in their high-pressure generation facility. This role later led her to be named manager of the Jacobs Pressure Systems Group tasked with the inspection and certification of all high pressure and vacuum systems at NASA Langley Research Center. In 2017, Christie joined NASA Langley Research Center as a civil servant, as the Deputy Pressure Systems Manager, and then Pressure Systems Manager. In this role, she was the technical authority for the design, installation, maintenance, inspection, and certification of Langley’s high-pressure systems. These systems encompass large scale wind tunnels, miles of high-pressure air and steam piping, Compressor Station, air storage facility and Boiler Plant, along with hundreds of laboratories encompassing more than $1.5 billion in NASA assets. Christie was named the Deputy Chief Engineer for Center Operations in 2020, where she is responsible for guiding and implementing the Technical Authority process within Center Operations and advises on the deviation of institutional requirements and resolution of dissenting opinions. In this role, she also mentors personnel in facility project management, systems engineering, and engineering best practices; along with supporting and encouraging efforts to assess and improve the technical competence of the facility engineering community. In 2021, Christie was named Facilities Chief, the head of the Facilities Management Office within Center Operations Directorate. She leads Facility Configuration Management, Asset Stewardship programs, as well as providing management oversight of the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract. As an Alfred University Alumni, Christie is a member of the Saxon Circle, Heritage Circle, and board member of the Alumni Council.
Matthew Versaggi, who earned his bachelor’s degrees in finance/management information systems and computer science from Alfred University in 1987, is an Artificial intelligence subject matter expert, a senior leader in Al at the fortune-5 healthcare level who has seen hundreds of use-cases, and has been in the Al space since the mid-80's. He has decades of experience as an entrepreneur, graduate level university professor, and public speaker. He holds patents in quantum computing. machine learning, and cognitive technology. Matthew is classically trained in Al at the graduate computer science level, holds four university degrees including an MBA, dozens of professional certificates in Al technology, and Al business strategy. He founded the organizations College of Artificial Intelligence that has trained hundreds of technologists, has chaired two patent review boards that awarded hundreds of Al healthcare technology patents, and lead the organizations Al center of excellence. He has been an entrepreneur of 16 years as CEO of his own company, taught for a decade at the university earning a teaching award, and is a seasoned public speaker of years with a global reach. Matthew is a philosopher of decades and is an accomplished athletic coach of 15 years in the pole vault. He currently consults in the Al business strategy space helping organizations become Al ready.
Antonio L. Williams, Ed.D., currently serves as the Interim Director of the David T. Kearns Center for Leadership and Student Success at the University of Rochester as well as Director of Graduate Diversity Initiatives. In his role as Interim Director, Williams oversees the day-to-day operations of the Kearns Center and is focused on the Center’s commitment to academic excellence and expanding pathways to advanced degrees for students from a range of backgrounds. Williams has nearly two decades of experience working in higher education. Prior to working at the University of Rochester, Williams worked for four years as the Assistant Director of the HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity) program at Rochester Institute of Technology. In his most recent role as Director of Graduate Diversity Initiatives at the Kearns Center, Williams has led efforts that support the recruitment, retention, and success of historically underrepresented students, particularly in STEM disciplines. Williams has played a pivotal role in expanding national partnerships with HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions, developing pathway programs, and overseeing student success strategies from high school through the PhD. As a first-generation college graduate, he holds a B.A. in Sociology from Alfred University, an M.S. in Sports Management from American Public University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. His doctoral research focused on the retention and persistence of Black male students at predominantly white institutions.
