Optimizing Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education

In May of 2023, The SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching & Technology (FACT2) created a task group to investigate how AI could be optimized for teaching & learning in higher education. The resulting report discusses the benefits and challenges associated with AI, and serves as a guide for faculty and educational professionals as they learn more about AI, and consider its potential uses.

The full report is available on AU's Artificial Intelligence page, which provides information and resources to assist faculty as they explore the topic of AI higher education.

Foreign Language Placement Exam

The Foreign Language Placement Exam is now administered online. Online exams can be taken in French, German or Spanish. Students must PREREGISTER by emailing Prof. S. Singer ([email protected]). In the email, include the language (French, German or Spanish) in which you would like to be tested. To take the exam during Advisement Week for Fall Semester classes, you must pre-register by or before November 3, 2023.

Who should take a Placement Exam?

Students who have taken more than two years of French, German or Spanish in high school and who intend to take the same language at AU should take the exam in that language.

Students who are bilingual or native speakers of French, German or Spanish (or who have spoken the language at home) should take the exam in that language.

Who does not need to take a Placement Exam?

Students who are planning to take French, German or Spanish in college but have NOT studied that language in High School (or spoken it at home) do not need to take an exam. They should start by taking 101 in their chosen language.

Students who wish to demonstrate proficiency in a language OTHER THAN French, German or Spanish should contact Prof. S. Singer ([email protected]) about procedures for taking a Placement Exam through another institution.
