Alfred University will host its Fall 2026 Ring of Fire event- an immersive, high-energy celebration of flame-based art and community-on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 4-8 p.m. in Cushing Alley, between Harder Hall and the Foundry/New York State College of Ceramics Physical Plant facilities. The event, which is student driven and organized, includes hands-on activities where attendees can create cast metal or iron-poured art. While there is a charge to the general public for these activities, they are free to undergraduate Alfred University students, while supplies last. Interested students can simply show up at the event and show their student ID. The Ring of Fire event is sponsored by the National Casting Center Foundry at Alfred University and the Alfred University Office of Admissions.

The Grief That Binds Us: Reimagining La Llorona
My story, The Grief That Binds Us follows Catalina, a mother struggling to cope with the sudden loss of her young daughter, Alma. She hears the familiar cries of La Llorona and is drawn back to the lake where she lost her daughter. But the story is not only about La Llorona-it is about what happens when grief becomes so overwhelming that it begins to pull someone away from the people who are still there. Through Catalina's relationship with her own mother, the story explores the complicated ways mothers and daughters love, protect, and carry each other's pain. La Llorona becomes a reflection of Catalina's grief and a warning of what she could become if she allows her loss to consume her. The story explores the sense of home, memory, and cultural identity, and grief in general.
