Fall 2026, Episode 9, Oct 29, Desmond Wallace
Election 2026: What You Need/Want to Know
As voters prepare for another election year, the American political landscape is constantly evolving. With 435 seats in the House of Representatives, a third of the Senate, numerous statewide and local offices-and early signals emerging about the 2028 presidential race-this talk will explore multiple facts of the 2026 midterm election. What issues are motivating voters across the ideological spectrum? How will the president factor into the election? What will the upcoming results say, if anything, about the presidential election two years from now?
Bergren Forum - Fall 2026
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, runs 12:15-1:10 on Thursdays in Nevins Theatre, Powell Campus Center and by zoom. New partnerships with Syracuse University and the University at Buffalo create graduate opportunities in a wide range of fields, including art therapy, forensic science, health sciences, museum studies, business, artificial intelligence, public health, communications, education, and more. Some pathways include benefits such as early assurance, streamlined admission, reserved seats, application fee waivers, or graduate tuition scholarships.
And these are in addition to Alfred's existing partnerships in areas such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law, nursing, sustainability, and chiropractic.
Whatever your major, there may be a pathway that fits your interests and plans after Alfred. Take a look at the attached summary to explore the programs, eligibility requirements, and benefits available to Alfred students.

I want to make you aware of an important change that will take effect in February 2027.
All members of our campus community currently use two-factor authentication (2FA) through either the Microsoft Authenticator app or text message verification.
As part of Microsoft's authentication roadmap, support for text message-based authentication will be discontinued.
Beginning in February 2027, all Alfred University users will be required to use the Microsoft Authenticator app as their second factor when accessing university systems.
To prepare for this change, please download and configure the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone if you have not already done so. The app provides a simple and secure authentication experience and is already in use by many members of the campus community.
You may switch to the Authenticator app at any time. However, migration will be mandatory before February 2027. I encourage you to make the change well in advance of the deadline.
I have included information from Microsoft below regarding the Authenticator app and the enrollment process. If you need assistance with installation or configuration, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
The ITS team will be available throughout the coming months to support users as we complete this transition.
If you feel that you cannot install the application on your phone, please reach out to the helpdesk so they can assess your situation and explore other options if necessary.
Thank you for your attention to this important security update.
All my best and Fiat Lux!

Few Organizations Can Find the Value in AI.
Himanshu Joshi Shows Why.
Thursday, October 29, 2026
11:20 AM- 12:10 PM
Join the upcoming seminar on ZOOM
AI use is nearly universal, yet few organizations can find the value. A meta-analysis of 106 experiments shows why: human-AI combinations often perform worse than the better performer working alone. Teams that structure the collaboration perform far better.
Drawing on his research and the latest 2026 evidence, Himanshu Joshi shows how collective intelligence emerges from how humans and AI interact, not from either one's brilliance.
He introduces a practical model of:
Risk-based autonomy tiers
A named human owner for every AI agent
Structured handoffs
The audience will gain insight into how best to leverage Agentic AI to build solutions.
