Barcelona & Madrid: Exploring the intersections of business and culture
In May 2023, Shelly Freyn, associate professor of marketing, and Spanish professor Kerry Kautzman led six marketing students and three art students on a study abroad program in Spain. The students tackled real-world marketing challenges at Agencia Manifesto's offices in Madrid and Barcelona, applying their marketing skills and receiving valuable industry feedback. They also gained insights into marketing strategies for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid from a premium soccer supplier and met Spain’s former Minister of Industry to discuss branding the nation globally. The program included visits to the Madrid and Barcelona parliaments and the historic city of Alcalá de Henares, providing a rich blend of professional and cultural experiences. Shelly, Kerry, and two participating students will discuss their experiences, offering insights into the cultural nuances of Madrid, Barcelona, and Alcalá de Henares, while exploring the intersection of marketing theory and cultural application.
