About This Event

Composing Beyond Boundaries: Enactive Composition as a Social and Personal Endeavor

What does it mean to compose beyond the boundaries of tradition? This talk delves into the practice of an ‘Enactive Composer,’ a concept that embraces personal interests to redefine the artistic process. Moving beyond conventional roles, it integrates self-developed interactive devices to transform composition into an immersive and perceptive experience—enacting music on a deeper level. However, this practice is not an isolated endeavor; it is profoundly shaped by the social contexts we live in, informed by the actions and histories that define our world. Join me as I discuss how enactive composition challenges and reimagines the roles of artist and composer in contemporary practice.

The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will take place from 12:10 to 1:00 on Thursdays in Nevins Theatre, Powell Campus Center. Bring a brown bag lunch if you wish. Coffee and tea will be provided. For further information contact John D’Angelo.
