With works by artists from each of our graduating classes, Window Seat represents their individual and collective journeys since departing Alfred. Our unique international MFA program operates between Alfred and Düsseldorf, Germany, offering a global perspective and firsthand experience in American and European art communities. Since graduating from Alfred, our alumni have gone on to further realize their artistic practices worldwide. "Window Seat" explores the concepts of travel, identity, close observation, and the “window,” along with the sense of wanderlust for discovery and possibility. Materiality and traditional painting techniques are revered and challenged in this exhibition as the artists explore and push the boundaries of surfaces and material choices, often blurring the space between representation and abstraction.
