Chloe Wasendorf will discuss the biological mechanisms contributing to the creation of the "Anxious Generation" of students that we are currently educating. Psychologist Jonathan Haidt coined the term in his book The Anxious Generation highlighting the psychological impacts of an upbringing without play and with social media. Foci include the intersection of that psychology and the biology behind the "addictions" observed in young people today with social media and technology, enabling a better understanding of what is happening in the brains of students during class that we (and they) might not even be aware of.
