MostArts opening concert to feature 2014 pianist competition winner Miyashita

Mayuki Miyashita, Grand Prize winner in the 2014 Young Pianist Competition at Alfred University’s (AU) inaugural MostArts Festival, returns to the Miller Theater stage for the event’s 2015 opening concert, Sunday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Miyashita, a ninth-grader from Maryville, TN, will perform with the MostArts Festival Orchestra – a small, Mozart-sized ensemble - with Dr. Lisa Lantz, the guiding force behind the festival, conducting. A gala reception will follow the program ($$ see below).

National panel reaccredits teacher education programs

The Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) has granted Alfred University’s (AU) teacher education programs reaccreditation for a two-year period.

The determination was made by the Commission of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and was granted without citing any areas for improvement or making any stipulations.

Carillon music will fill the valley Tuesday evenings in July during AU's summer series

The hills and countryside surrounding Alfred University (AU) will once again be alive with the sound of carillon music as guests for the annual Wingate Memorial Summer Carillon Recital Series perform Tuesday evenings during the month of July.

This year’s concerts, played on the University’s Davis Memorial Carillon, begin at 7 p.m., with the exception of the first program July 7, which starts at 6:30 p.m. due to the ongoing MostArts Festival programming that week.

School psychology doctoral program reaccredited at maximum seven-year term

Alfred University’s (AU) doctoral program in school psychology (PsyD) has been reaccredited by the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Commission on Accreditation for the maximum term of seven years.

A seven-year recertification is awarded to those programs which have no areas of deficiency requiring continuing review and are deemed to represent “the best possible quality of graduate education and training in psychology,” said Dr. Nancy Evangelista, associate provost and dean of the College of Professional Studies at AU.
