Proceeds from annual 5K run/walk to go to student scholarships

Alfred University (AU) is hosting a 5K Run/Walk to benefit its Dollars for Scholars Fund on Saturday, June 13, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Main Street, Alfred bandstand. Community members are encouraged to participate in the event which is included in the University’s annual Reunion Weekend activities.

The 5K course encompasses the campus and surrounding neighborhoods. There will be a water stop halfway into the course; participants are encouraged to bring their own water as well. Complimentary refreshments will be available following the race/run.

AU welcomes artist working on prints depicting adolescents' collective feelings

The Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA) and the Division of Expanded Media at Alfred University (AU) is hosting Traci Molloy of Brooklyn in an artist-in-residence program through Friday, May 22.

Throughout the residency, Molloy is working on a series of digital prints, in partnership with adolescents from the surrounding community, superimposing their responses to the prompts “I Am, I Will, I’m Afraid” in their handwriting over photographs of themselves. The words will obscure their image and with the body of work as a whole represent the collective feelings of the adolescents of the Southern Tier region, said Molloy.

Top-notch criminal defense attorney, '71 alumnus Schneider urges members of Class of 2015 graduates to love their work

Stanley G. Schneider, one of the nation’s top-rated criminal defense attorney’s offered Alfred University’s (AU) Class of 2015 some well-deliberated advice – “love your work and your relationships; don’t settle for less.”

Schneider, a 1971 AU alumnus, spoke Saturday morning (May 16) before a capacity crowd in the Galanis Family Arena at the McLane Center on campus.

His message was taken from his own life experiences, he explained, noting “Success is defined in many different ways …. Judge yourself (don’t let others do it for you). Success comes from your own sense of decency and accomplishment. Find your passion in life. Create your own style, follow your heart and your intuition. I followed my heart to a rewarding career.”

Art Force Five superheroes confirm NYS summer library tour, booking school visits

Alfred University (AU) students disguised as superheroes will present non-violence workshops at more than 20 New York State (NYS) libraries this summer to coincide with the state’s “Every Hero Has a Story” summer reading program. AU’s Art Force Five team, which uses creativity to promote equality, reduce violence, and strengthen communities, will be making the presentations.
