Exam Examination Applicants to M.A. or C.A.S. Doctor
of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree programs in School
Psychology must submit official scores of the general
section of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
Students applying to graduate programs in engineering
are encouraged to submit their scores.
Graduate Management Admissions Test
Applicants to the M.B.A. degree program must submit
an official GMAT score. The College of Business seeks
candidates who achieve a score of 500 or better on
the GMAT.
Test of English as a Foreign Language
The language of instruction at Alfred University
is English. All international applicants who have
not received a baccalaureate or master's degree from
a US institution must take the TOEFL. A score of
590 or better (550 for the M.F.A. program) on the
written exam, or 243 on the computer-based exam is
required for admission. The Test of Written English
(TWE) is optional. We exempt only English-speaking
citizens of Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia,
New Zealand, Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad, and the
West Indies.
Test of Spoken English
It is recommended that all international applicants
submit scores for the Test of Spoken English.

Letters of Recommendation
Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation
from former instructors or employers (applicants
to the School of Psychology must submit three).
The names, titles and contact information for each
of the recommenders must be listed on the application
form. The online Reference
Report is available for your recommenders to
print, fill out and mail to us, or contact us and
we will mail one or more to you.
Your faculty may also use their official letterhead.

Send Transcripts of all Collegiate
and Post-Collegiate Work
Applicants must provide official transcripts (in
English) of all previous work at the college level,
including proof that he/she holds the baccalaureate
degree. The baccalaureate degree must be appropriate
to the particular course of study and be considered
legitimate preparation for the field of study to
which the student is being admitted. Some students
may be accepted with the condition that undergraduate
coursework be completed. A 3.0/4.0 GPA or better
is recommended.
Consideration will be given to graduate work done
at other accredited institutions. Such credit must
be in courses which were clearly at the graduate
level with a grade of B or better, and appropriate
to the student's Alfred University program of study.
Transfer credits must fit within the six consecutive
calendar years of a student's academic program. The
student's advisor and program department chairperson
or program director must approve each transfer credit.
Normally the maximum number of credits which may
be transferred is six credits for M.A., M.S., M.P.S.,
or M.S. in Ed. degrees, and twenty credits in doctoral
programs. No transfer of credit is permitted for
the M.F.A. degree.

Interview
Each applicant to the Counseling and School Psychology
programs is expected to have a campus interview.
Interviews are also required of students applying
to M.S. in Ed. Degree programs which provide permanent
teaching certification if the applicant does not
hold or expect to receive New York State provisional
teaching certification at the time of initial matriculation.
Interviews are recommended for applicants to the
M.F.A. program.
Portfolio
Applicants to the M.F.A. degree program must submit
a portfolio of twenty 35mm slides of their artwork
in plastic sleeves. Each slide must indicate the
name of the artist, title of work, top of slide,
medium, and dimensions in inches. Electronic Integrated
Arts applicants can submit slides, CD-ROM or cued
videotapes. The portfolio should be accompanied by
a self-addressed, postage paid envelope so that the
portfolio can be returned.

Certification: Literacy Program
NYS Provisional Certification is necessary for admission
to the Literacy Program. Applicants must pass the
first two sections of the NYS Teacher Certification
Examinations (LAST and ATS-W). An admission decision
cannot be made until we have received the examination
scores. If you are interested in receiving permanent
certification in the field of your provisional (initial)
certification, a CST score must also be submitted. |
