About this Facility

The McGee Pavilion is the newest facility for the School of Art and Design at Alfred University and in 2012, received the International Architectural Award from The Chicago Athenaeum/Europe. On the lower floor, the 20,000-square-foot building house flexible ceramic classroom and studio spaces. The second level houses new sonic arts, video and interactive arts studios. The third and fourth floors are the Robert C. Turner Student Gallery and a “black box” exhibition space for electronic media.

The Robert C. Turner Gallery occupies the top two floors of the building visible above ground. This largest gallery of the School of Art and Design is entirely student-run with faculty advisement. It provides students with real-life experience involving the operations of a professional gallery. The two floors below ground house the state-of-the-art facilities for sound design, video, and interactive art, and the flexible spaces for senior studios and exhibition areas for instruction and critiques in Ceramic Art.

  • Constructed in 2011 with a $10 million appropriation from the New York State Legislature
  • Named in Honor of State Senator Patricia K. McGee (1934-2005) in recognition of her assistance to the University
