Glass scientists at Alfred University, in a partnership with New York State and Vitricity, a consulting company focused on promoting sustainability in the glass industry, are studying ways to wash and reuse wine bottles. The project could remove tens of thousands of wine bottles from the waste stream each year while helping Finger Lakes Region wine producers realize significant savings.

Eight Alfred University students, six of them members of the International Students Association, went on a weekend trip to Washington, D.C., where they toured the White House and visited other key sites in the nation’s capital. The trip continues the ISA’s efforts to provide students with diverse experiences through exposure to different American cities.

The Sisters of Alpha Kappa Omicron announce two current students have been named as winners of the 2024 AKO Leadership Awards. The awards, given in consultation with the Judson Leadership Center, have been strategically established to perpetually award two Alfred University students each year through generous support from numerous donors from the sisterhood.

Zhongbei Daisy Wu, master of the guzheng and clinical associate professor of music and language at Alfred University, concluded an enriching musical arts residency at Carlton College and the Twin Cities of Minnesota. The five-day residency, from Feb. 14-18, included four concert performances, a lecture, and a master class.
