Student improves scoring-timing system at Alfred University pool

Alfred University student Sean Killian describes himself as inquisitive by nature, with a desire to learn how things work and how they can be improved. That mindset led Sean, a sophomore at Alfred University and a member of the men’s swimming and diving team, to make significant improvements to timing-scoring system and audio-video capabilities at the McLane Center swimming pool, saving the university thousands.

Faculty, student present at 2025 ACTFL Convention

An Alfred University faculty member and student participated in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Convention and World Languages Expo, held Nov. 20-22 in New Orleans. The conference is the most influential gathering for world language educators in the United States.

Alfred University hosts guest artist flute and piano recital

Alfred University’s Department of Music welcomed a captivated audience to Susan Howell Hall on Saturday, November 15, for a vibrant and artistically rich guest artist recital featuring flutist Jeanne Sperber, current adjunct flute professor at Alfred University, and pianist Michael Salmirs. The event was made possible through the generous support of the David and Elizabeth Graves Miller Fund for Performing Arts.

Alfred University senior receives prestigious 2026 NCECA Regina Brown Undergraduate Fellowship

ALFRED, NY — Alfred University is proud to announce that Summer Escaño Aquino, a senior in the School of Art & Design at the New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC), has been awarded the highly competitive 2026 NCECA Regina Brown Undergraduate Fellowship - one of the nation’s most distinguished recognitions for emerging ceramic artists.

Alfred University recognizes 2025 Fiat Lux! Award winners

At Tuesday’s annual Holiday Luncheon, Alfred University recognized recipients of the university’s Fiat Lux! Awards. The awards were established in 2016 by Mark Zupan, university president, to honor people who bring distinction to Alfred University. The 2025 Fiat Lux! winners—Garret Eldridge, head men’s soccer coach; Andy Eklund, professor of chemistry; and Paul May, regional associate director of admissions, Albany/New England—exemplify Alfred University’s three core strengths: mentorship, intersections, and inclusivity.

Ending the year ‘All In’: donors celebrate students and Alfred’s legacy

As the year comes to a close, more than 270 donors reflected on their own Alfred experiences—or watched their children discover new passions—and chose to give back. During the All In For Alfred Day of Giving, held December 4–5, their support totaled over $220,000, underscoring the lasting impact of Alfred University’s personal approach to education.
