Benjamin Evans, Wayne Higby Director and Principal Curator of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, wrote an article that was published recently in Ceramics Now, a leading art publication specializing in contemporary ceramics.
Evans’ article, “Ceramic Cinema: A Report on the Third International Ceramic Film Festival of Manises,” appears in the January issue of Ceramics Now. The article discusses the third “CICEMA Festival Internacional de Cinema Ceràmic de Manises,” a film festival held Nov. 21-23 in Manises, Spain, which Evans attended.
In the article, Evans reviews his generally positive experience at the event. He describes the many different styles of films shown, which included documentary, animated, fictional, and experimental films from all over the world. He also noted, however, the absence of films from North America, and ends his essay with a call for the American ceramics community to get involved in documenting their history through film. The article also includes trailers for several of the films so readers can get a taste of what the festival was like.
