Alfred University Phi Kappa Phi inducts 24 new members

The Alfred University chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society welcomed 24 new members during induction ceremonies held April 17 in Herrick Library. Ten juniors, six seniors, and eight graduate students comprised the group of inductees.

Roger Loucks, professor of physics and Phi Kappa Phi president, presided over the induction ceremonies and was assisted by Brian Sullivan, dean of libraries and chapter treasurer.

Inductees from the College of Business were seniors Natalie Collins of Waterville, NY, and Brendan Riley of Fairport, NY; and graduate student Dominic Wilcox of Hornell, NY.

Inductees from the School of Liberal Art and Sciences were juniors Aleah Carlton of Painted Post, NY, Colin Jacques of Red Bank, NJ, Meghan Lyle of Portville, NY, Saron Mindaye of Alfred, NY, Abigail Omelan of Tomball, TX, and Jaelyn Wojewoda-Ko of Allegany, NY; and seniors Isabel Benfield of Bloomsburg, PA, Natalie Danquah of Alfred, NY, Nkanyiso Dlamini of Alfred, NY, and Sydnie Tutmaher of Mayville, NY.

Inductees from the School of Art and Design were juniors Alexia Fuller of Hudson, NY, Elizabeth Madsen of Portland, OR, and Samantha Schlosser of Buffalo, NY; and graduate students Yara Al Asmar of Alfred, NY, Ignacio Luera of Hutto, TX, and Oliver Wood of Alfred, NY.

Inducted from the Inamori School of Engineering School were junior Biana Dorr of Clifton Park, NY; and graduate students Preston Guynup of Alfred Station, NY, and Lauren Meyer of Alfred Station, NY.

Inducted from the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies were graduate students LaShonne Burroughs of Brooklyn, NY, and Johanna Mathis of Brooklyn, NY.

Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Its standards are second to none. The Greek letters of Phi Kappa Phi stand for the society’s motto, “Philosophia Krateito Photon,” which is freely translated, “Let the Love of Wisdom Rule Humanity.” The Alfred University chapter was established in 1970. In its initiation ceremony, held in the Herrick Library Bookend Lounge, the chapter honored the academic accomplishments of its newly inducted members.
