Alfred University-PTK partnership creates pathway for direct admission

Alfred University announces a new partnership with the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society in which PTK members can qualify for direct admission to the university with the potential for $28,000 in annual scholarships.

Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is the premier international honor society for two-year college students, with nearly 1,300 chapters worldwide. PTK recognizes academic achievement and provides opportunities for leadership, service, and access to transfer scholarship funding. The organization has partnered with four-year colleges and universities across the nation to provide exclusive scholarships for PTK members who transfer to their institutions.

“PTK Direct Admissions allows us to recognize high-achieving transfer students, simplify the transfer process and most importantly allows us to help students realize their purpose here at Alfred University,” said Kyla Whannell, director of Admissions.

“We are especially excited to welcome Phi Theta Kappa students to Alfred University because PTK members are part of a vibrant and inclusive community of ambitious students, innovators, and changemakers,” said Kristen Vargason, director of Strategic Enrollment Planning and Transfer Admission. “Their commitment to academic excellence, leadership, service, and meaningful connection closely aligns with Alfred University’s mission and community values.”

Alfred University has long demonstrated its commitment to supporting Phi Theta Kappa students by offering transfer scholarships of up to $28,000 annually to eligible PTK members. Scholarships are automatically awarded upon admission, with no separate scholarship application required. Under the partnership with Phi Theta Kappa, Alfred University is included in PTK’s direct admission program.

“This allows transfer students who are PTK members to be seamlessly admitted to Alfred University without going through the normal application process,” Vargason explained. “It also acknowledges the hard work they’ve already put in, as well as their academic achievements and accomplishments.”

Students interested in Alfred University’s Phi Theta Kappa Direct Admission program should submit materials by July 1 for fall enrollment and by Dec. 1 for spring enrollment. More information about the program is available on Alfred University’s PTK Direct Admission webpage.
