Alfred University will host three Open House events this fall, beginning with a two-day event scheduled during Homecoming and Family Weekend Sept. 25 and 26.
The Office of Admissions encourages staff and faculty to spread the word to friends and family about our Open Houses, which offer prospective students and their families the opportunity to spend a day at Alfred University and experience how exciting and vibrant student life is on our beautiful campus. Attendees can choose from one of the university’s program-specific events, explore its academic programs, and connect with the campus and local communities.
The Fall Open House and Athlete Open House events will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, respectively.
Those attending the Fall Open House can attend a panel discussion featuring Alfred University alumni, many of whom are on campus for the university’s annual Mentorship Day. It will also include tours of academic facilities; information sessions focused on financial aid and the application process; meeting current students; Student Experience tours, including visits to residence halls; discussions with admissions counselors, and shuttle trips to the Stull Observatory, Foster Lake recreational area, the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park; and Saxon Hill Sports Complex.
The Athlete Open House includes an admissions information session; a panel discussion with current Alfred University student-athletes; presentations by staff from the Division of Student Experience; campus tours, including to athletics facilities like the new Saxon Hill Sports Complex; and attendance at the Saxons’ Homecoming football game.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the university will host the Ring of Fire Open House. Held during the annual Ring of Fire event, which in past years has been held in the spring. The Ring of Fire is described as a “an immersive, high-energy celebration of flame-based art and community.” Visitors to the Ring of Fire Open House will take in an iron pour and raku firing, and see live demonstrations of glass blowing, neon, forging, and more. They will also learn about research opportunities at Alfred; take tours of academic facilities; sit for an informational session on financial aid; and take Student Experience tours, including visits to residence halls.
The Veterans Day Open House will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11. It will include an information session, “What it Means to be a Saxon,” which will discuss access to resources available to students. There will be a pair of mock classes: one will be followed by an information session for parents/guardians focusing on financial aid; the other by a student experience-focused session for parents/guardians. The day will also feature tours of campus facilities, including academic buildings, classrooms, labs, and studios.
All students who visit Alfred University receive a $1,000 per year visit grant if they visit before March 1 of their senior year of high school.
