The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum will host a book launch Sept. 18 at 4:30 pm to celebrate the publication of two books: Pitchers of American Life, by art historian Ezra Shales, and Path of the Teabowl, by Alfred University Professor of Art History Meghen Jones.
Jones’ book has been published as part of the 2021-22 ACAM exhibit of the same name. The exhibit, which was curated by Jones, traced the development of the teabowl in and beyond Asia and featured more than 100 teabowls and related objects from the tenth through the twenty-first century.
Shales, author of The Shape of Craft (Reaktion 2017), pulls art and craft designs into dialogue in Pitchers of American Life, dwelling on the importance and pleasures of tactile learning directly from artifacts. Shales served as an art history professor at Alfred University from 2004 to 2012.
The ACAM book launch will include a question and answer session with both authors, as well as copies of both books for sale.
