Fault Lines features sculpture, vessels, and material investigations that explore the expressive and conceptual potential of clay.

Working within a shared material while pursuing distinct artistic directions, the seven MFA candidates - Amanda Gentry, Marita Manson, Nathan Neufeld, Ish Rivera, Elizabeth Scott, Persis Wade, and GH Wood – demonstrate the breadth and vitality of contemporary ceramic practice. Across the exhibition, clay functions as both medium and language: responsive, resistant, and capable of holding layered meaning.

The works in Fault Lines move fluidly between abstraction and figuration, narrative and objecthood, intimacy and scale. Through processes rooted in touch, transformation, and experimentation, the artists investigate themes ranging from memory and identity to perception, spirituality, and the instability of meaning. Together, their practices reflect the dynamic possibilities of ceramics as a field that continues to evolve across disciplines and contexts.

The exhibition includes twelve sculptural works alongside a selection of functional pottery that further expands the dialogue between form, use, and concept.

The Master of Fine Arts program in Ceramic Art at Alfred University has long been recognized as a leader in the field, consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation. Located within a state-of-the-art facility at the New York State College of Ceramics, the fully funded, two-year program fosters an intensive environment where mentorship, research, and critical making intersect. Students engage deeply with both traditional and experimental approaches, preparing them for diverse and impactful careers in the arts.

Sculpture Space NYC – Center for Ceramic Arts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing contemporary three-dimensional art with a focus on ceramics.
