Fresh Faces

Alfred is a historic community, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t growing. In 2025, we welcomed two new businesses: Baudelaire’s Shop and Kindred Collective.

Baudelaire's
Named for the French poet Charles Baudelaire, this boutique specializes in vintage and thrifted clothing. With a constantly refreshed stock and a commitment to inclusivity, Baudelaire’s has something for everyone.

Just a short stroll down Main Street, Kindred Collective is a gift shop dedicated to supporting local artists. With 26 contributing artists working in glass, ceramics, crochet, and more, you never know what treasures you’ll find. Not into art? Kindred Collective also offers a used book program—perfect for finding your next page-turner.

Historic Community Cornerstones

Alfred is home to several local staples, some serving the community for decades—and in The Collegiate’s case, over a century. Known for its hearty breakfast and lunch menu, The Collegiate is famous for its $2 bottomless coffee, affectionately called “jet fuel,” a lifesaver for early mornings.

Coffee and Sweet Treats

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to study or hang out, Terra Cotta Coffee House has you covered. It’s more than just coffee—Terra Cotta serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Craving something sweet? Head to N’dulge, Alfred’s hidden gem bakery tucked away on Church Street. Despite its small size, N’dulge serves scratch-made pastries, coffee, and hot chocolate. A steaming cup of cocoa and a fresh pastry make winter strolls through town unforgettable.

Late Night Eats

Why Local Matters

Alfred’s businesses and community thrive together. Supporting local spots helps keep Alfred unique—and that’s something you won’t find at every university. These gems are just the beginning; there’s so much more to discover. When you find your favorites, share them with us!
