Three student participants in the 2022 Hot Dog Day parade in Alfred on Saturday, April 30, march down Main Street dressed as hot dogs in buns. The trio playfully tossed frankfurters during the parade, which kicked off the 50th Hot Dog Day celebration. The event, a joint venture between Alfred University and Alfred State, raised approximately $5,600 for area charities.

Hot Dog Day welcomes founders Rick Vaughn ’73, Mark O’Meara ‘74

The hot dogs were back, and so were the people. Hundreds visited the Village of Alfred and the Alfred University campus Saturday as the community celebrated the 50th official Hot Dog Day anniversary under sunny skies following a two-year, blame-the-virus suspension of festivities.

Senior Shows open Saturday

Alfred University will host the annual Senior Shows with receptions starting at 4 pm Saturday and continuing to 8 pm. Sixty-nine exhibits, the capstone projects of art students in the University’s School of Art and Design, will be held in Harder Hall, Binns-Merrill Hall, and the Cohen Center Studio on Main Street in the Village of Alfred.

IEA receives major grant from New York State Council on the Arts

Alfred University’s Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA) recently received a $15,750 Immersive Art and Technology Initiative Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), IEA Director Joseph Scheer, Professor of Printmaking in the School of Art and Design, announced this week.

Siennie Lee, a current graduate student in the Alfred/Düsseldorf Painting program of Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, has been selected for the prestigious and highly competitive artist residency program at the Fine Arts Work Center, in Provincetown, MA.

"Sensing Nature" exhibition in Scholes Library builds on Art History Professor Hope Childers’ class Landscape across Cultures

Building on a semester of research and collaborative work, students in Professor of Art History Hope Childers’ "Landscape Across Cultures" class have put together an exhibition called “Sensing Nature,” which opened last week in the Scholes Library Project Space and features a wide variety of media, including paintings, prints, sculpture, photography. The show runs until Monday, May 30.
