Alfred University has been awarded an extension on a joint project with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) to study the synthesis and characterization of ultra-high temperature ceramic (UHTC) materials. The university will receive $3.2 million in funding—part of a $13.5 million contract initially awarded in the spring of 2022.

Kiani Barnard-Pratt came to Alfred University as a biomaterials engineering major, with an interest in pursuing a career in the development of prosthetics. Now a senior, she is working on a research project focused on 3-D printing of glass-based materials that can be used for tissue, organ, and bone regeneration.

Alfred University engineering students this week met with veteran electrical systems engineer and Alfred University alumnus Jacob Towsley (MS, Electrical Engineering, 2009), whose past work include stints with Hornell-based Alstom Transport, operator of the largest passenger rail manufacturing facility in the U.S.

Seven Alfred University MFA students in the School of Art & Design, New York State College of Ceramics, are exhibiting their work in “Fault Lines,” an exhibition at Sculpture Space NYC– Center for Ceramic Arts. The exhibit will run through March 21. Sculpture Space NYC is located at 47-21 35th Street, Long Island City.

Summer at Alfred 2026, hosted by Alfred University, will feature a variety of exciting activities, including arts-focused workshops and residencies, sports clinics, and engineering short courses. The program also offers several pre-college programs focused on the performing arts.

In recognition of America250, our nation’s 250th birthday, the Alfred University Reunion Bikers have chosen the historic Saratoga Springs, NY, as their pedal off point for this year’s journey back to campus. The area offers a unique variety of historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities. The city’s official slogan is “Health, History, and Horses.”
