The Fall 2025 issue of 'Alfred Magazine' recently was honored with two national awards. The magazine is a joint effort between Alfred University's Office of Marketing and Communications and Office of University Advancement.

The magazine, “Learning by Doing,” includes articles and photographs detailing Alfred University alumni’s recollections of experiential learning practices during their undergraduate years. It was published in December of 2025.

Collegiate Advertising Awards recognized the issue as a Silver Winner, and EduADAWARDS named the magazine a Merit Winner in each organization’s category of external publications.

In addition to the magazine’s traditional features, such as “Campus Digest” and President Mark Zupan’s “From Z to AU” column, the magazine includes feature articles on  experiential learning initiatives in engineering programs, museum and gallery practices, a book publishing practicum offered through the Division of English, real-world business practice offered through the College of Business, and College of Business students participating in the Institute for Experiential Entrepreneurship. An alumni feature reviews the undergraduate experience of Sandra Murchison ’94, who studied printmaking in the College of Art & Design under Professor of Print Media Joseph Scheer. Murchison now serves as director of the School of Art and Design at Eastern Michigan University.

"Alfred University is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated Marketing and Communications team that works every day to tell the University's story and highlight the achievements of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni," said Andrea Fagon, vice president for Marketing and Communications. "This recognition reflects the team's commitment to producing high-quality publications like Alfred Magazine and advancing the University's mission through effective communications."

Alfred Magazine is a semi-annual publication overseen by the Office of Marketing and Communications and University Advancement. It is distributed in print form to alumni and appears also as a digital publication on Alfred University’s website.

The summer issue of Alfred Magazine is to be published this month.
