Finals Week at the Libraries: Study, Snack, Relax

Posted By Alfred University

Finals week can feel nonstop — papers, projects, exams, repeat. While your academic focus matters, taking intentional breaks is just as important for staying energized and focused. During finals week, our Alfred University libraries are here to support not only your studies, but your well‑being too.

Here are a few ways to relax, recharge, and reset while you’re powering through the end of the semester.

Free Coffee & Cookies

Nothing fuels a study session quite like caffeine and a sweet treat. Stop by either Herrick or Scholes during finals week to enjoy free coffee and cookies, available Monday through Friday while supplies last. Whether you’re heading into a long night of studying or taking a well-earned break, this is the perfect pick‑me‑up.

May 1 to May 9

Extended Library Hours

We know finals don’t always fit into a 9–5 schedule, so both libraries are extending their hours to give you more flexibility.

  • Scholes will be open later on Friday and Saturday
  • Herrick will be open until 1 a.m. from Saturday, May 2 through Wednesday, May 6, and will open early at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 9

For detailed daily hours, be sure to check the library website so you can plan your study time with confidence.

May 1 to May 11

Creative Breaks: LEGO & Coloring

Sometimes the best way to refocus your brain is to step away from your screen. Head to the Scholes Commons for a low‑pressure creative break with a LEGO® table and coloring book pages. Building, coloring, and hands‑on activities are a great way to reduce stress and reset your mind before jumping back into coursework.

May 4 and May 5

Therapy Dog Visit: Meet Bravo

Need a morale boost? Bravo the Dog will be visiting Herrick Library for some relaxed, tail‑wagging encouragement in Herrick Library from 7 to 9 p.m. Spending time with a therapy dog is a proven stress reliever—and an instant mood lifter during a high‑pressure week.

Be sure to follow the library on Instagram for reminders and photos from the visit.

You've Got This

Finals week is a marathon, not a sprint. Make time to rest, refuel, and recharge. Your brain will thank you. Whether you’re grabbing a cookie, building a LEGO masterpiece, or stopping by to say hello to Bravo, our libraries are here to support you every step of the way.

Good luck on finals — you’ve got this!
