Choosing a university isn’t just about the campus, the programs, or even the opportunities outside the classroom. It’s also about the people students learn from every day. At Alfred University, our faculty aren’t just teachers; they’re active researchers, presenters, creators, and leaders in their fields. Their work helps shape the learning experience students have from day one. A recent example comes from our College of Business, where Ayush Sengupta, Assistant Professor of Analytics and the J. Henry Smith Chair of Business and Administration, continues to make an impact on a national stage.

Turning Real World Problems into Real Research

Professor Sengupta recently presented his research paper, “Share-the-Road: Exploring the Relationship between Bike-sharing and Ridesharing Platforms,” at the 56th Annual Conference of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) in Orlando, Florida.

This conference brings together scholars and industry experts who are tackling some of today’s biggest questions in data, analytics, and decision-making. Being invited to present is a recognition of his forward-thinking approach to studying how people move around cities, and how technology shapes those choices.

For future business and analytics students, research like this shows how Alfred faculty stay ahead of trends that influence industries around the world.

Growing as Educators

Beyond presenting his paper, Professor Sengupta also participated in the Junior Faculty Consortium at the International Conference on Information Systems in Nashville, Tennessee, a selective professional development gathering designed to support emerging scholars.

Faculty who stay engaged in these networks bring fresh ideas, innovative teaching approaches, and current industry knowledge directly into the classroom. It means your professors aren’t just teaching from textbooks. They’re helping write the next chapter of their fields.

Why It Matters

When you come to Alfred University, you learn from faculty who:

  • Present their work at national and international conferences
  • Collaborate with experts across industries
  • Bring cutting-edge research into the classroom
  • Mentor students who want to pursue hands-on projects or their own research ideas

Professor Sengupta’s accomplishments are just one example of the active, engaged, and supportive teachers students meet here. And when your faculty are energized by their own discoveries, it helps spark curiosity and confidence in the students they teach.
