Catherine Deskur

Catherine DeskurCatherine Deskur is a multi-faceted artist who works as an orchestral and chamber musician throughout the U.S. and Europe. In addition to her role as the bassist of Exceptet - a contemporary chamber group - she is a tenured member of her hometown orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic, and a regular player with other regional orchestras across the Northeastern U.S. She performs a wide range of classical music, spanning from the Renaissance to the modern day.  

During summers, Deskur has served as principal bassist of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA (2019 European Tour, 2020 Virtual Program), as well as principal bassist of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, and was selected as a member of the Davos Festival Academy Chamber Orchestra. Beyond her orchestral work, she was a semi-finalist in the 2019 International Society of Bassists High School Solo Competition and was selected for a residency at the Stauffer Center in Cremona, Italy. In 2024, Catherine was the recipient of Harvard's prestigious Robert Levin Prize in Musical Performance. Catherine studied with Donald Palma at the New England Conservatory of Music through their Dual Degree program.
