July 10 - 16, 2022 Alfred University School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division welcomes the public to join the Alfred Summer Arts Festival: Making Meaning in an Uncertain World. The Festival includes morning and afternoon masterclasses throughout the week, free evening salons and family friendly activities.

Alfred Summer Arts 2022 kicked off this week at Alfred University, offering a wide variety of arts workshops to campus visitors.

Beginning June 26 and building on the tradition of the Alfred community's lively art scene, Summer Arts at Alfred has something to offer for anyone seeking hands-on creative growth.

This summer the galleries on Alfred University campus are open with a variety of exhibitions. Campus galleries, including the Cohen Gallery, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery and the Robert C. Turner Gallery are open Tuesday - Sunday 11-2, and the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum is open Tuesday - Sunday 10-5. Extended gallery hours will be held in conjunction with the Alfred Art Walk on Thursday, July 21 from 5-8 pm

Alfred University’s School of Art and Design and Performing Arts Division has announced its first annual BIPOC Summer Resident artists. Artists Tatiana Florival, Clare Hu, Adrian Aguilera and Jacoub Reyes will serve as visiting resident artists in SOAD, with each residency lasting between two weeks and four weeks.

Alfred University alumna Felicity Machado, MFA ’22 is one of 41 artists in residence this summer in the Chautauqua School of Art Residency Program.

The Shop at Cohen, a recently-opened retail space in the Cohen Gallery on Main Street in Alfred, now offers an online store which allows visitors to virtually shop for fine art and craft produced by Alfred University faculty and staff.

An exhibition featuring artwork by the Alfred University School of Art and Design’s Judy Livingston, associate professor of graphic design, and Jesse Plass, gallery preparator, will be shown over the summer in the Cohen Gallery, Main Street, Alfred.

Luanne Crosby, Professor Emerita of Music at Alfred University, will perform as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasie” and in choruses from Handel’s oratorio, “Solomon,” at 3 pm July 24 at Hale Auditorium Roberts Wesleyan College, in Rochester, NY.

Margeaux L. Claude, MFA graduate 2022 from the Division of Ceramic Art, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, has received a second Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award for the 2022-2023 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Six bronze statues, cast at Alfred University’s National Casting Center, will be awarded Friday to six Alfred University alumni at the Saxon Circle Dinner of the 2022 Alumni Reunion. The awards, organized by the University’s Alumni Council, celebrate Alfred University alumni nominated for the award by their peers.

Maureen Weiss, Associate Professor of Performance Design and Technology in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, Performing Arts, is the co-editor of Scene Shift, which will be published in August by Focal Press.

John Gill is featured in a four person exhibition at Yossi Milo Gallery entitled RGB, with Daniel Gordon, Emily Mullin & Ettore Sottass (1917-2007). The exhibition opened on June 30 at 245 Tenth Avenue in the New York City gallery.

A solo exhibition entitled Balancing the Cosmos: Works by Li Hongwei (MFA Ceramic Art 2007) is on view at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts through October 2, 2022. Li will give a virtual artist talk which explores the dual nature of his work on July 7.

A film by Miao Ying (MFA Electronic Integrated Arts 2009) is featured in the exhibition Mirror Image: A Transformation of Chinese Identity on view at the Asia Society Museum in New York through August 15
