Saxon Dining Is Serving Up a New Campus Experience at AU

Posted By Alfred University

When students picture life at Alfred University, they often think about classes, residence halls, clubs, and athletic events. But some of the most memorable moments on campus happen around a table. It's where friendships begin, study groups gather, and students find a sense of home away from home. That's why Alfred University's new partnership with Sodexo marks an exciting new chapter for student life. Launching as Saxon Dining, the refreshed dining program brings new flavors, expanded options, wellness-focused menus, upgraded spaces, and exciting campus events designed to enhance everyday life for Saxons.

A Dining Experience Designed Around Students

image for sodexo-alfred partnershipAlfred University's leadership selected Sodexo after an extensive review process that included feedback from students, faculty, and staff. The result is a dining program built around what today's students want most: variety, flexibility, convenience, nutrition, and community.

The goal isn't simply to serve meals. It's to create spaces where students can connect, recharge, and feel supported throughout their college experience. As part of the partnership, Saxon Dining will introduce new dining concepts, experiential events, wellness initiatives, and opportunities for student involvement.

More Options, More Flavor at Ade Dining Hall

Ade Dining Hall remains the heart of campus dining, but students will discover an experience that feels fresh and modern.

New and enhanced stations offer something for every appetite and dietary preference, from comfort food favorites to globally inspired cuisine. Students can enjoy customizable pasta dishes, made-to-order sandwiches, fresh salads, handcrafted pizzas, performance-focused meals, and international flavors throughout the semester.

Highlights include:

  • Simply 3, an allergen-friendly station featuring foods prepared without nuts, gluten, or dairy
  • Performance Plate, designed to provide balanced nutrition for active students
  • Showcase, featuring globally inspired recipes and rotating culinary experiences

For families concerned about dietary needs, Saxon Dining places a strong emphasis on accommodating allergies and offering vegetarian, vegan, and wellness-focused options. The culinary team works directly with students to help ensure individual needs are met.

New Favorites Are Coming to Powell Campus Center

Beyond Ade, students will find exciting new retail dining options in Powell Campus Center that make grabbing a meal between classes easier than ever.

Among the new offerings:

  • Mediterra, featuring customizable Mediterranean bowls and pitas
  • Tres Habaneros, serving tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and Tex-Mex favorites
  • Natural!, offering fresh juices, smoothies, and nutritious grab-and-go options
  • Prime Time Patty's, serving smash burgers, fries, milkshakes, and classic diner-style fare
  • Kiln Crust Pizza, bringing customizable pizza options to campus

Students will also benefit from convenient mobile ordering and kiosk technology that makes picking up meals faster and easier throughout the day.

Wellness, Sustainability, and Fresh Ingredients

Today's students care about where their food comes from, and Saxon Dining is embracing that mindset.

The culinary program emphasizes fresh preparation, balanced nutrition, plant-forward options, and sustainable practices. Menus incorporate Sodexo's Mindful recipes that consider factors such as sodium, fat, and overall nutritional balance while still delivering great flavor.

Saxon Dining also plans to partner with local vendors and use food waste reduction technology to support sustainability efforts across campus.

Leading the culinary team is Executive Chef Adam Harvey, a Culinary Institute of America graduate whose experience in higher education dining helps bring both creativity and consistency to the student dining experience.

More Than Meals: Building Community Through Food

One of the most exciting aspects of Saxon Dining is its focus on creating experiences beyond the plate.

Throughout the year, students can expect themed dinners, cultural celebrations, specialty events, interactive programs, and unique culinary experiences that bring the campus community together. Planned programs include global food events, wellness-centered initiatives, cooking experiences, and exclusive dining experiences designed to introduce students to new cuisines and cultures.

Saxon Dining is also encouraging student participation through employment opportunities, internships, marketing roles, sustainability initiatives, and ongoing feedback that helps shape future dining offerings.

A Taste of What's Ahead

For prospective students and families, Saxon Dining reflects a broader commitment Alfred University is making to student experience. From allergen-friendly dining and global cuisine to upgraded gathering spaces and community-focused events, this new program is designed to help students feel welcomed, supported, and connected from their first day on campus.

As Saxon Dining launches this fall, students can look forward to a campus experience where great food, meaningful connections, and school spirit come together every day.
