Alfred Reunion Sees Impressive Multi-Generational Turnout

Posted By Alfred University

Reunion is more than a weekend. It’s a powerful reminder of what it means to belong to a lifelong community. This year’s celebration brought together alumni from across decades and across the country, reinforcing the enduring connections that define the Alfred University experience.

From the Class of 1954 to the Class of 2023, Saxons of all ages returned to campus to reconnect, reminisce, and make new memories together.

Legacy that Stretches Nearly 70 Years

This year’s Reunion showcased the remarkable span of Alfred’s alumni network. Joe Fasano ’54, representing the earliest class year in attendance, returned to campus alongside Nate Marrero ’23, one of our newest graduates.

That nearly 70-year range speaks volumes: at Alfred, your connection doesn’t fade—it grows stronger over time.

Our Golden Saxons (alumni celebrating 50+ years) showed up in force, with 47 in attendance. The Class of 1974 led the group with 12 classmates returning, setting the tone for a weekend rooted in tradition, pride, and lifelong connection.

Celebrating Milestones and Momentum

Class pride was on full display throughout the weekend. The Class of 1976 led all honored classes with 34 registrants, the highest turnout and even surpassing last year’s leading class by one. Other strong showings included:

  • Class of 1986: 19 attendees
  • Class of 1987: 17 attendees
  • Class of 2006: 13 attendees

Fraternity and Sorority Connections

Greek life remains a powerful connector long after graduation. Although our Greek organizations are no longer established, we welcomed those alumni back to Alfred with special Greek events this Reunion. Klan Alpine led all groups with an incredible 53 members registered, followed by:

  • Lambda Chi Alpha (Eta Phi Gamma): 26
  • Delta Sigma Phi: 21
  • Alpha Kappa Omicron: 17
  • Sigma Chi Nu: 15

These numbers reflect not just participation, but the enduring friendships and shared experiences that continue to draw alumni back.

Community that Travels Far and Wide

Alfred’s reach extends far beyond Western New York, and this year’s Reunion proved it.

Doug Viner ’91 traveled the farthest, journeying 2,691 miles from Ashland, Oregon, to be here. Close behind were:

  • Mike Hendee ’87, Napa, California (2,668 miles)
  • Kent Rothman ’89, Ontario, California (2,579 miles)

Families and Lifelong Bonds

One of the most meaningful aspects of Reunion is seeing generations of Saxons come together.

The Knee family once again stood out, with four alumni in attendance: Kelly Knee ’99, Nancy Knee ’74, Frank Knee ’75, and Erin Knee Brooks ’99. The Robinson family also made a strong showing with four alumni across generations. Scott Robinson ’84 and Chris Robinson ’86 both returned, along with Peter Robinson ’19 and Emma Robinson ’16, demonstrating how the Alfred experience continues to shape families decades after graduation.

Throughout the weekend, countless family connections were on display, from siblings returning together to parents and children sharing the Alfred experience across decades. These moments highlight something special: Alfred isn’t just a place you attend. It’s a place that becomes part of your family story.

Why It Matters

For alumni, Reunion is a chance to rediscover the friendships and experiences that shaped who you are today. For prospective families, it offers a glimpse into something deeper than academics—a community that lasts a lifetime.

At Alfred University, you’re not just earning a degree. You’re joining a network that will celebrate you, support you, and welcome you back year after year. We can’t wait to see what next year’s Reunion will bring.
