For many students, the path to a bachelor’s degree isn’t always traditional, and it doesn’t have to be.

A new partnership between Alfred University and the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship is creating a more flexible, direct route for students looking to continue their education and build careers in business. Through this agreement, graduates of Golisano Institute certificate programs now have the opportunity to transfer into Alfred University as juniors, making the transition to a four-year degree faster and more seamless.

Turning Career Training Into a Four-Year Degree

The Golisano Institute focuses on hands-on, career-ready business education. Now, students who complete its certificate programs can build on that foundation by pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Alfred.

Eligible students can choose from:

By transferring as juniors, students can apply what they’ve already learned and move directly into advanced coursework, saving both time and tuition along the way.

A Seamless Transition

Ian Mortimer, president of Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship, signs a new agreement between the Institute and Alfred University with Alfred University president Mark Zupan.

One of the biggest challenges for transfer students is navigating the process: Will credits transfer? Will you lose time? What comes next? This partnership is designed to remove that uncertainty.

Students who complete the Golisano Institute program and meet Alfred’s criteria are automatically accepted and can enroll as third-year students, as long as they apply within four years of finishing their certificate. That means fewer barriers and a clearer academic plan from the start.

Built Around Career Outcomes

Both Alfred University and the Golisano Institute share a strong focus on preparing students for careers, not just degrees.

At Alfred, business programs through the College of Business emphasize:

  • Applied, hands-on learning
  • Real-world problem solving
  • Career readiness in areas like analytics, management, and entrepreneurship

This alignment makes the transition between the two institutions especially effective, giving students continuity in how they learn and apply their skills.

Expanding Opportunities

For students, this partnership represents something bigger than a transfer agreement. It’s expanded access.

Students who begin with focused, career-driven certificate training now have a clear path to:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Expanded career opportunities
  • Long-term advancement in business and analytics fields

And because Alfred is known for strong post-graduation outcomes, the pathway also connects students to a broader network of opportunities after they graduate.

Looking Ahead

Today’s students take many different routes into higher education. Some start at four-year universities, while others begin with specialized training programs like those at the Golisano Institute. This partnership recognizes that reality and supports it. By creating a direct pathway from certificate study to a bachelor’s degree, it allows students to continue their education in a way that fits their goals, timeline, and experience.
