Arun Varshneya

Dr. Arun Varshneya has always had a passion for teaching. He joined Alfred University’s glass science faculty in 1982 and served as a researcher and professor for 28 years. At his students’ request, he wrote Fundamentals of Inorganic Glasses, a textbook which is now used worldwide.

“Alfred did well with me, I did well with Alfred, but the biggest winners were my students. They have been a matter of great personal pride and joy to me.”

Dr. Varshneya earned his first bachelor’s degree from Agra University, India and his second bachelor’s degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in materials science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. For the past twenty years, he has concurrently developed a chemically-strengthened glass injector device that helps save thousands of lives annually. He’s now the president of Saxon Glass Technologies, Inc. He’s been awarded numerous international honors for his teaching, research and entrepreneurship work in glass science.
