Breaking News!

The Communication Studies major at AU introduced Franchesca Feliz to a field she had never considered pursuing before: journalism. She dove right in, joining AU’s student newspaper, Fiat Lux, as an undergraduate. She first worked as a staff writer, then as the social media expert, later becoming managing editor and ultimately editor-in-chief. Her experiences with Fiat Lux and other activities in media at Alfred helped he secure a position at NY1 News, a 24-hour news channel in New York City, after graduation. She’s now a producer-videographer at BronxNet Television.

Majoring in communication studies taught me a ton about communication among friends, family and colleagues, and it also opened the doors to my passion.

Gaining some required on-air experience for her major in Communication Studies, Franchesca guest starred on a radio show at WALF 89.7 FM, Alfred University’s student-run radio station, with some of her classmates, spending the rest of her time on campus in the Powell lounge and in Openhym, studying and relaxing, while maintaining a high GPA. Franchesca's attitude toward her college education in combination with her scholastic achievements earned her the status of Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior her graduating year.

Nana’s Japanese Café and the Terra Cotta Coffee House were Franchesca's (and most students'!) favorite spots to grab a bite to eat and hang out with friends when not dedicating time to her studies.
