Jae Won Lee

Jae Won Lee’s ceramic works are often inspired by her identity, which simultaneously transcends and fuses together elements of Korean and American cultures. Her works explore the coexistence and possible unity of these two distinct worlds, focusing on the human experience that bonds them. Her pieces reflect minimalism and formalism. Some of the materials she uses include paper, hair, and porcelain she hand-builds.

She received her Master of Fine Arts from A.U. in 1995. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University, where she teaches Foundation Courses and Senior Seminar. Her creative process, which is largely a meditative and solitary act, is evident in the details of her work.
