Karla Moskowitz

Justice Karla Moskowitz graduated from A.U. with her Bachelor of Arts degree, bearing the cum laude honor, before continuing to Columbia Law School. She has served as a judge in various courts since 1982. Elected to the Supreme Court in 1991 and re-elected in 2005, her duties have been divided between a Medical Malpractice Part and the Commercial Division. She has continued to serve in the Appellate Division, First Department since her initial appointment in January 2008.

 

She has a plethora of additional legal experience, including service in the State Attorney General’s office and as an attorney in private practice. She has also worked as president and director of numerous committees.

 

Alfred University has bestowed Justice Moskowitz with several honors, including the Abigail Allen award in 2004; Induction in Phi Beta Kappa in 2006; and Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws, honoria causa, in 2008. Justice Moskowitz has been awarded numerous other distinctions throughout her career. Civility in the courtroom, commercial litigation, and women’s issues are among the topics she frequently lectures on.
