Professor of Biology

AU’s Division of Biology and Biochemistry had long-sought someone well-versed in Cell Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. Fortunately, Jean Cardinale had studied these fields for her undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as her graduate thesis. She started in a one-year visiting position and never wanted to leave Alfred after that. She gets to focus on what she loves most: helping students learn, grow and be prepared for their own successes in life.

This is the message I hope my students take to heart… Find your passion: find the thing, job, activity, or career that you enjoy and that you do well and work hard to make that happen.
Jean with a student

Alfred’s location in rural New York is one of Jean’s favorite places in the world. Jean dedicates her free time to outdoor activities like biking and camping, and a vast amount of land in Allegany County is available for public use. Her family also has roots in New York extending back to 1643.

Jean enjoys a rural lifestyle. She likes spending time in her brewery, winery, and cheesery and cooking superb meals to share with her friends. When she wants to venture into downtown Alfred, Jean relaxes at The Rosebush.
