Athletics, Engineering and...Med School?

Drawn to AU’s engineering curriculum and its men’s soccer program, Richard Lander ventured from his hometown of 389 people to begin pursuing his goals. In addition to his studies and athletic interests, he gravitated toward Design, Build, Fly Club, a group of engineering students that focuses on building model aircrafts.

I had big dreams and understood that the bridge between what I dreamt and the reality of that dream is hard work. Alfred University not only believed that I could make my dreams a reality; they showed me the way.

Alfred University’s community supported Richard as he confronted challenges and overcame his fears. He graduated summa cum laude as a mechanical engineer. He also became a two-time soccer Academic All-American. Richard was accepted into the University of Rochester Medical School after graduation.

Richard decided to become a Saxon Circle member to honor the impact Alfred has had on his life. He forever considers himself a community member and a Saxon.
