Walter McConnell

An A.U. grad and professor, Walter McConnell is a ceramic artist whose work confronts the relationship between nature and culture. Best known for his unfired ceramic installations, Walter’s artwork often combines natural and abstract forms to explore how contemporary culture understands nature.

His sculpture has been featured at the Denver Art Museum; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; MASS MoCA; the Daum Museum; the CU Art Museum, Boulder, Colorado; and at SOFA, New York. It has also been exhibited internationally in Sweden, the Netherlands, Taiwan, China, and Korea. He has received grants from The Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Constance Saltonstall Foundation.
