Alfred University’s Summer Arts 2023 offers free daily afternoon programming including lectures and gallery openings. The series culminates on Thursday, July 20 with the Alfred Art Walk.

Artist Yikui (Coy) Gu is looking for participants for his BIPOC Artist Residency Project: "Celphies". The project seeks participants to offer used electronic devices and a selfie. The artist will paint portraits onto smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Two Alfred University faculty—Joseph Scheer, professor of print media, and Scott Misture ’90, PhD ’95, Inamori Professor of materials science and engineering—were inducted into the State University of New York’s Distinguished Academy during a ceremony Tuesday (June 20) in Albany.

D. Chase Angier, professor of dance in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design + Performing Arts Division, presented a talk during the recent Prague Quadrennial, where she served as an International juror. The Prague Quadrennial was held June 8-18 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Meghen Jones, Alfred University Associate Professor of Art History in the School of Art and Design, spoke recently in a panel discussion hosted by the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, on the occasion of the traveling exhibition “Transcendent Clay / Kondo: A Century of Japanese Ceramic Art."

An event honoring the late Andy Brady, former professor of printmaking in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, will be held Sept. 8-10 on the Alfred University campus. Brady, who taught at Alfred in the 1970s, is one of the founders of the University’s printmaking program, one of the most innovative and renowned in the country.

The Alfred University School of Art and Design is sponsoring a residency program that will provide visiting artists of color opportunities to dive into their artistic research and practice, and creative artistic endeavors within the SoAD and Division of Performing Arts studios.

Yuval Zaliouk, the internationally renowned conductor of symphony orchestras from London to Toledo, OH, joined Alfred University’s MostArts Festival in 2015 and has returned as conductor of the MostArts Festival Orchestra for every Festival since.

Alfred Summer Arts Workshops June 26 - July 22: 1 day & 1 week workshops in a variety of media areas designed for participants working at all levels: artists, teachers, community members and visiting professionals. 50% tuition discount for K-12 teachers / 25% discount for local residents.

Alfred Summer Arts offers free daily afternoon programming including lectures and gallery openings. Lectures take place in Binns-Merrill Hall room 106 at 4:30pm. Weekly gallery receptions take place on Fridays, June 30, July 7 and July 14. The series culminates on Thursday, July 20 with the Alfred Art Walk.

The 2023 MostArts Festival opens July 23-29, featuring world class performances by the International MostArts Orchestra, conducted by Yuval Zaliouk. Guest artists include Russian pianist, Asiya Korepanova; jazz pianist, Dave Miller with Rebecca DuMaine; 2019 Young Pianist Competition winner, Carey Byron; and a special Family Night Concert with a surprise guest.
