University, SOAD kicks off Black Glass Artist Series in February

Glass artist N'Kosi Barber of Chicago will join Alfred University’s School of Art and Design in the first week of February to kick off the University’s Black Glass Artist Series, as well as the University’s celebration of 2022 as the International Year of Glass.


Glass artist N'Kosi Barber of Chicago will join Alfred University’s School of Art and Design in the first week of February to kick off the University’s Black Glass Artist Series, as well as the University’s celebration of 2022 as the International Year of Glass.

Barber is associated with Firebird Community Arts, of Chicago, and serves on its Board of Trustees. The organization was founded in part through the efforts of Alfred University alumna Pearl Dick ’98, who helped start Project Fire, a program that teaches wounded victims of gunfire the skills of the hot glass shop.

Barber will lead a public demonstration of glass art craft Thursday, Feb. 3 from 9 to 11 am in the University’s Hot Glass Shop, followed by a public talk from 5 to 6 pm in Binns Merrill Room b106. His student team includes Chiontae Thomas and Lynquell Biggs.

Additional visiting faculty for the Black Glass Artist Series are artists SaraBeth Post and Cedric Mitchell.

Alfred University’s Black Glass Artist Series has received the support of the University’s School of Art and Design and its Sculpture Dimensional Studio Division; the Alfred University Student Senate,; and Olympic Color, of Seattle, WA.
