Alfred University’s School of Art and Design hosted the “2022 Alfred Summer Arts Festival: Making Meaning in an Uncertain World,” July 10-16. Directed by Stanzi Vaubel, PhD, of The Indeterminacy Festival, the goal of the week-long festival was to create opportunities for participants to encounter the methodologies of other arts practitioners and discover how these methods might inform their work.

Participants were invited to expand their own creative practice into this forum of choreographers, dancers, writers, composers, musicians, and visual artists and discover how to “re-discipline” what they knew within a unique festival forum.

The events included masterclass workshops with world-class artists and evening salons focused on art, music, and dance. The festival culminated with the “Becoming Birds” parade down Main Street on Friday--shown in photo above--featuring Japanese Nebuta-style lantern sculptures created in a workshop taught by artist George Ferrandi.
