Robyn Goodman, retired professor of communication at Alfred University, was a member of the Organizing Committee for the World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC), which held its first online conference on June 30.

The conference, “Reimagining journalism education in the age of change,” followed global conversations on “journalism education for the 21st century,” and included a series of roundtables organized by WJEC. It focused on reimagining journalism curriculum, the future of journalism education, and the challenges it currently faces.

According to the conference website, “Journalism pedagogy has been a central theme in the WJEC gatherings since the first congress in Singapore, but the shift to online teaching, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitates a paradigm shift.”

Goodman has also been tabbed to co-chair the Syndicate Program at the next WJEC Conference in Beijing and Shanghai, China, scheduled for the summer of 2023. The 6th WJEC Conference will be held in Beijing July 6-8, 2023, with a post conference in Shanghai on July 10, 2023. The event is being organized through the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing and Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in Shanghai.
