SOAD hosts 100th anniversary of Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Ceremony for Western New York Region

Alfred University’s School of Art and Design recently hosted the 100th anniversary of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Ceremony for the Western New York Region.

The University’s  School of Art and Design served as adjudicator for the Western New York Scholastic Art Awards competition, which this year received more than 550 entries from 270 high school-age students living in Western New York. In addition to this year marking the 100th anniversary of the ceremony, this is the second year SOAD  has served as adjudicator for the region. As the Western New York partner, SOAD serves school districts in the following counties: Seneca, Yates, Ontario, Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Livingston, and Niagara.

A ceremony was held for the winners, families and educators on Feb. 21 on the Alfred University campus. Fifty “Gold Key” winners and five American Visions winners will advance to national review of the Scholastic Art Awards.

The partnership is made possible through collaborative efforts from across Alfred University’s Enrollment Management and the School of Art and Design + Performing Arts Division.

“We are thrilled to continue this partnership between the School of Art and Design and Scholastic Art and Writing Awards,” said Performing Arts Division Assistant Dean Maria Bentley. “Any opportunity to celebrate young makers and their educators.”

Special thanks to Bentley,  Arts Admissions Counselor Lukas Perry, and Undergraduate Arts Administrative Assistant Shelly Grant.
