Professor of Painting Kevin Wixted receives 2023 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

Kevin Wixted, retired professor of painting and drawing in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, had been awarded a 2023 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. The $30,000 grant will be used to support Wixted’s studio practice during the 2023 year.


In support of Lee Krasner’s mission to advance the work of visual artists, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation has provided support to a growing list of nearly 5,000 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant honorees from 79 counties, who to date have received $85 million. Lee Krasner (1908-84) was an American abstract expressionist painter was married to fellow late American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock.

Wixted’s paintings have appeared nationally and internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions.  His shows have been written about in Artforum, Art in America, ArtNews, The New York Times, Boston Globe, New York Observer, and the Hudson Review among others. His work is represented in public collections including the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Mississippi Museum of Art, Chase Manhattan Bank, General Electric, Hewlett Packard, Noruma Securities, Societe Generale, and Time Warner.

He has been awarded two Pollock-Krasner Grants, a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, an International Fellowship Faculty Grant, and Excellence in Teaching awards from Alfred University. His residency awards include the Cite Internationale des Arts Paris, Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, MacDowell Colony, and the Patrick Allen Frazier of Hospitalfield Foundation Scotland. He is co-founder of the Alfred/Düsseldorf MFA in Painting Program.

Wixted recently retired from his position as Professor of Painting in the School of Art and Design at Alfred University and continues to work as a visiting artist with Alfred University graduate students in Düsseldorf, Germany.
