IEA hosting artists-in-residence

Alfred University’s Institute for Electronic Arts, School of Art and Design, will host three artists in its 2023 summer residency program.


Alfred University’s Institute for Electronic Arts, School of Art and Design, will host three artists in its 2023 summer residency program. The residency program receives support from the Experimental Projects Residency in Electronic Media and Film and the Print Media Program, both made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Kathy Hochul, the New York Legislature, and the Schein-Joseph Endowment.

The visiting artists:

 Visakh Menon, July 31 – Aug. 4

Menon is an artist from India, currently living in New York. His interdisciplinary practice spans drawing, video, installations, and media art with a focus on human machine interaction. He received his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2007

Jacquelyn Strycker, Aug. 8 - 12

Strycker is a Brooklyn/Queens-based artist working primarily in printmaking, collage and fibers-based media. Her art explores relationships between decoration and function and is invested in material exploration and handicraft. Strycker has a BA in Visual Arts from Columbia University and an MFA from Tyler School of Art.

Kari Varner, Aug. 15 - 19

Varner is a visual artist working in Binghamton, NY. Her explorations of the landscape often take the form of photographs, installations and ephemeral works. She graduated with a BFA in Electronic Media Arts Design from the University of Denver and went on to complete her MFA in Visual Art at Washington University in St. Louis.


Alfred University’s IEA video and sound studio offers artists an integrated system with real-time video, image-processing software, hardware and video capture. The IEA’s Experimental Print Media Program Residency also offers access to state-of-the-art digital arts facilities.
