Visiting professor of dance Erin Law creates original work for Nashville theater performances

Erin Law, visiting assistant professor of dance, created original work included in “4 Short Stories," a dance theater production featuring four Nashville, TN-based creative directors.

Each director produced a unique new work in “4 Short Stories," which premiered in Nashville January 25-29, 2023. Law’s short story, titled “OBEY,” was a co-creative project that explored cultural rules and structures and the effects of unexamined complacency and conformity on those in the margins.

In addition to the choreographic direction, Erin also composed, performed, and produced the sound score with Santikaro Cooper. The sound was inspired by and infused with samples from a 1982 cassette tape that is meant to teach children to obey authority figures.
