Leo Tecosky '03 to join sculptor Kim Thomas in February Black Glass Artist series

Glass sculptor Leo Tecosky ’03 will return to Alfred University as part of the School of Art and Design’s 2024 Black Glass Artist Series.


 Tecosky will visit the University from Feb. 13 through Feb. 16. He will host glass demonstrations from 1:30 to 4 pm on Feb. 13 and 15 in the Glass Studio, and deliver a public lecture on Feb. 16 at 4:30 pm in Room C of Binns Merrill 106.

Tecosky is the recipient of the 36th annual Corning Museum Rakow Commission as well as the 2023 Maxwell/Hanrahan Award in Craft. Recent exhibitions include TECO037 at Alma’s RVA and collections by the Chrysler Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass. Tecosky was featured in the April 2022 issue of Alfred Magazine, and he lives and blows glass in Brooklyn, NY. 

SOAD’s 2024 Black Glass Artist also will feature sculptor Kimberly Thomas of Detroit, MI. A self-taught glass artist, Thomas earned a BFA in Ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design and spent six years as a special effects make-up artist before she began flameworking in 2009. 

Thomas will visit Alfred University from Feb. 6 through Feb. 8. She will deliver a public lecture at 4:30 pm Feb. 6 in Room C of Binns Merrill 106 and offer glass demonstrations from 1:30 to 4 pm on Feb. 6 and Feb. 8 in the Glass Studio.
