Virtual open house offered to provide information on fourth annual AHA! business competition

In the fourth annual AHA! Allegany County Startup Collegiate Competition, scheduled for Saturday, April 6, teams of students from Alfred University and Alfred State College will present their ideas for creating a new business. Winning teams will be awarded cash prizes, which can be uses to put their business plans into action.

An informational open house will be held via Zoom today from 3-4 p.m. The Zoom link can be accessed via the QR link in the above image.

The AHA! competition will be held from 1-4 p.m. April 6 and be hosted by Alfred University, which also served as host for the inaugural 2021 competition as well as the 2022 event. Alfred State hosted in 2023.

According to organizers, the mission of the competition is to cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit in our student population while helping solve some of the challenges facing the area and developing small businesses locally. The event aims to help in retention efforts of young professionals in Allegany County and provide real-world experiential learning opportunities for students.

There is $8,500 in cash prizes available; top winners will receive cash toward the launch of their business as well as in-kind donations of professional services. The first-place team will receive $5,000; second place wins $2,500; and third place receives $1,000. Undergraduate students of any major are welcome to participate, and cross-disciplinary teams are encouraged to take part
