Alfred University theatre professor Jonathan Ziese to lead online workshop at NY Thespian Festival
Jonathan Ziese, assistant professor of theatre at Alfred University, will lead a workshop during the NY Thespian Festival, scheduled for April 5-6 at Long Island University-Brooklyn.
Ziese will lead an online workshop from 2:45-4 p.m. on Friday, April 5 titled “Devising Light and Sound,” which serves as an introduction to devising theatre.
Students will participate in a series of exercises with objects that create light (i.e., a flameless candle, Christmas lights, a camping lantern, etc.) and objects that create sound (i.e., a tambourine, a handheld radio, a rain stick, etc.) toward creating a piece of performance text. From solo exploration, to paired tableaus, to a full scene at the end, students will both perform and interpret others’ performances, working together to create something new.
