Public events in the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division. All events are free and open to the public.


Audance TheaterThursday - Saturday, February 16-18, 8pm Miller Theatre AU Dance Theater Presents An Evening of Dance. featuring live performance, with integrated mixed media. This year’s concert features the 2022-2023 Marlin Miller guest artist Cayla Mae Simpson, who created a new work that will be performed by Alfred University students. The performance also features choreographic works by Alfred University faculty D. Chase Angier and Colleen Wahl and students Dani Brown, Genesis Luciano, Meira Naugle, Ro Robertson and Brenna Turner as well as lighting design by faculty Maureen Weiss.


Idea Victoria FebruaryFriday, February 17, 12-1:15pm IDEA Lab Harder Hall Upheaval Book Club led by Victoria Walton. Part one of a two-part workshop,  discussing the book, "The Body Is Not An Apology", by Sonya Renee Taylor. For this session, we will watch a recorded talk from Sonya, about her practice of radical body acceptance and disability advocacy. Food will be provided. RSVP

Friday, February 17, 6-8pm Fosdick-Nelson Gallery Opening Reception Perhaps Home is Not a Place curated by Jonathan Christensen Caballero and Joey Quinones, features nine BIPoC artists who work in a variety of media from fiber to ceramics to explore how bodies are seen or not seen, and how home is not always a physical place we inhabit.

Alfred Ceramic Art Museum LogoThursday, February 23, 5-7pm  Alfred Ceramic Art Museum Opening Reception Paul S. Briggs: Knot Stories, The Showcase Exhibition. Knot Stories is an exhibition of ceramic sculpture by artist Paul S. Briggs inspired by Black Poetry which transmutes stories of suffering into songs of perseverance. Selections: The Archive is a view into the permanent collection of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum focused on recent acquisitions in context with other major works.
