Alfred University School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division offers 1 day, 1, 2 & 4 week workshops June 26 - July 22, 2023 in a variety of media areas designed for participants working at all levels: artists, teachers, community members and visiting professionals.
Alfred Summer Arts 2023 features four weeks of arts workshops in a variety of media areas designed for participants working at all levels: artists, teachers, community members and visiting professionals. 50% tuition discount for K-12 teachers / 25% discount for local residents.

June 26 - July 21 Open Studio Intensive Resident Artists/Advisors: Walter McConnell, Elsa Sahal, Michael Eden, Youngmi Lee & Ara Koh. Includes 1 day workshops with Adero Willard, Stephanie Hanes, Sanam Emami and Cory Brown/AMACO *available for college credit.
June 26 - July 7 Lighting Up: Firing the Alfred Wood Kilns Matt Kelleher Create work to fill and fire the Alfred train kiln and gas/wood hybrid kiln. Studio work time, guided demonstrations, slip, glazing and loading strategies
July 10 - 21 Digital Design & Clay Printing Del Harrow & Johnathan Hopp Explore a range of techniques and processes for realizing 3D Computer Models as physical ceramic form. CNC machining, plaster molds, plastic printing, extrusion and clay printing with Lutum printers.

Photography & Writing Kelsey Sucena A practical investigation of narrative strategies as an aspect of still photography and photo-related imagery.
Expanded VR: Experimental Practices for Immersive Media Matthew Gantt Hands-on introduction to creating immersive VR and 3D environments.
Intro to 3D Printing Erin Taylor What to look for in a 3D printer, benchmark testing for better results, software for preparing models and printing, and curriculum integration for arts and engineering classrooms.

Sound Connections - Creative Music Retreat Jesse Chandler & Ben Zucker For sound-based artists from all genres, willing to stretch as individual and interactive creators.
Egg Tempera Painting Patrick Brennan Celebrate egg tempera’s rich history, make gesso panels, mix fresh paint with powdered pigments.
Intro to Wood Block Printing Jacoub Reyes Draw, transfer, & carve wood blocks; hand print on paper.
July 10 - 14
Pulped Fiction & Fabrics of Truth Paper Making Patsy Rausch Cultural collaboration related to fabrics and materials significant to each narrative. The vehicle for this dialog is a portable papermaking studio.
... Definitely the Moon (Sculpture+Photo) George Ferrandi Combine a Japanese technique for making illuminated paper sculpture (Nebuta) with long exposure photography/light painting.
Music from the Other Side of the World Mingren (Morgan) Huang Experience folk songs, musical instruments, folk dances, and operas from China and other Asian countries.
July 17 - 21
Color from Nature: An Experiential Leap into Applying Color to Yarns and Fabrics Natural Dyes Debra MacCrea Visit a dye garden, learn to grown and forage dye plants, prepare dye and eco-print.
Experimental Printmaking William Contino Development images utilizing the media of print, both traditional and digital.
1 Week on Coastal Maine
Housed on an idyllic waterfront property, immerse yourself in nature, and work through the body to refresh or deepen creative practice.
